Choosing an Electric Salamander
A salamander is an overhead grill: the heat comes from above, so a plate slides underneath to melt cheese, brown a gratin, toast garlic bread or finish a dish just before it goes out. The electric version needs only a power point, which makes it easy to place on a counter or wall shelf near the pass.
Before you order, decide
- Width: how many plates or trays need to fit under it at once.
- Adjustable shelf: a shelf that moves up and down controls how strongly the heat hits the food.
- Power supply: check the socket rating and wiring can take the load.
- Mounting: counter-top or wall-mounted, depending on space.
